BattSax provides lithium battery protection for all airlines

BattSax is the very latest in specialist lithium battery fire mitigation for the aviation industry.

It’s brought to the market by Environmental Defence Solutions, a sister company to  Environmental Defence Systems which designed and manufactured the AvSax fire mitigation bag that won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for its outstanding innovation in 2018 – the highest accolade any business can achieve. AvSax are on around 17,000 aircraft operated by more than 100 airline companies worldwide.

BattSax builds on that pioneering technology and the main difference is that the BattSax is self-cooling inside. Unlike the AvSax, it doesn’t need water adding to cool an overheating personal electronic device down once it’s contained within the bag.

BattSax measures 53cms (length) by 35cms (width) and 4cms (height) which makes it exceptionally space-saving to store on aircraft. It weighs 2,700g which is just under 6lbs.

BattSax is made from incredibly heat resistant multi-layered materials such as Thermashield and Pentashield so it can withstand temperatures as high as 1,600°C which is way higher than its rivals.

Thermashield is the primary thermal barrier inside the BattSax, specially engineered to provide high performance thermal insulation against extreme temperatures.

Pentashield carbonises a burning electronic device in a controlled way, limiting oxygen and preventing the fire from developing inside the bag.

An overheating or burning device gives off toxic and flammable gases but the Pentashield’s integrated reinforcement layers absorb the extreme pressure generated during gas ignition, withstanding pressures up to 10 bar.

The outer cover is made from EDS-PA6.6-R which is an extremely strong and robust material.

It has been thoroughly tested and is due on the market by the end of 2026. This product is unique and will be excellent value for money. Demand is expected to be very high so airlines are urged to register their interest in the product now.
